ASLA Professional Learning - PART 3: Using Informit Explore for Research and Inquiry (21 Sep 2026)

Informit Explore and ASLA are partnering to deliver a three‑part professional learning series designed exclusively for ASLA members. Across July, August and September, this series will equip school library professionals and educators with practical strategies for integrating high‑quality Australian content into teaching, learning and inquiry.

Each session focuses on a different dimension of contemporary learning; from media literacy to classroom provocation to senior research skills with a strong emphasis on critical thinking, source evaluation, and purposeful resource selection.

Session 3: Using Informit Explore for Research and Inquiry

This session guides participants through supporting students across the full research process, from initial topic exploration to advanced searching. Using sample lessons, journal articles, research‑focused videos and topic pages, educators will learn how to help students find, evaluate and use sources effectively.

Subject focus: Senior research subjects

Who should attend? This workshop is ideal for:

Library assistants and support staff working to support student research skills

• Early-career teacher librarians
• Experienced library staff wanting to strengthen their knowledge in Australian databases
• Anyone looking to grow the use of their Informit Explore subscription within their school

The publisher perspective: Lara explores the experiences and concerns of small publishers, including the challenges and opportunities AI presents for the children’s publishing industry.
Data, copyright & IP: Taryn unpacks data security, intellectual property theft and why even seemingly harmless uses of AI for “ideas” can have significant implications for creators and publishers.
The creator perspective: Kate shares how authors and illustrators are adapting their creative practices, submissions and school visits, while considering the potential impacts—and benefits—of AI on reading, creativity and critical thinking.

Join us for an insightful conversation about AI, creativity, copyright and the future of children’s books, viewed through the eyes of those working at the heart of the industry.
