Strategic National Partnerships

Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)

ALIA is the professional organisation for the Australian library and information services sector.  It seeks to empower the profession in the development, promotion and delivery of quality library and information services to the nation, through leadership, advocacy and mutual support.

Sharing the future - ALIA and ASLA working together.

On 4 October, 2007 the renewal of agreement between ALIA and ASLA  was signed by Isobel Williams (ASLA), Anette Ainsworth (ASLA) and Roxanne Missingham (ALIA)

The governing bodies of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and the Australian School Library Association (ASLA) acknowledge the importance of working together, now and in the future - to better meet the professional and representational needs of those within, or interested in, the school library and information sector.

To achieve this the two governing bodies have agreed to co-operate and collaborate on the initiatives outlined and to pursue further opportunities as they arise. In general, collaboration and co-operation will focus on areas:

  • being of mutual benefit to each organisation and its membership, and representing equality of membership;
  • having a current and future practice focus;
  • emphasising library and information services within the school community

Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)

ACARA is responsible for a national curriculum, a national assessment program and a national data collection and reporting program.

The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL)

  • rigorous national professional standards
  • fostering and driving high quality professional development for teachers and school leaders
  • working collaboratively across jurisdictions and engaging with key professional bodies.

Charles Sturt University (CSU)

Queensland University of Technology (QUT)

The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Charles Sturt University (CSU) with the Australian School Library Association (ASLA) recognise the importance of creating professional learning communities by focusing on continually improving teacher-librarian practice.

To strengthen expertise QUT, CSU and ASLA are exchanging professional learning opportunities to challenge and mentor teacher-librarian students and graduates.

In recognition of the collaborative links between QUT, CSU and ASLA this partnership facilitates sharing and integrating teaching practices across the teacher-librarian profession.
